These are awesome routers. I use the CTR350 while travelling all the time. It allows you to use virtually any data card and/or tethered phone, and share it across to multiple users via WiFi. If your room has a wired connection, the wired ethernet port can be configured to WAN instead of LAN. Benefits include being able to use UMA while travelling and being able to share 1 internet connection and associated fee between multiple users/rooms!

List of Droids Running Around!

The link to this one was passed on to me.

It shows a list of various Android / OHA devices available, specs, and expected availability. Looks like some of the specs may be off though.

For all those that need industrial PTT

Large, durable device available for those who use the iDEN network. This device has a full antenna, GPS, 0.6 watt output (1.0 watt in the non IS version). The speaker and ringer on this bad boy are LOUD. In the box, it includes a desktop charger and belt clip.

There is an emergency call button where, when setup, can give the emergency talk group priority over all other phone radio actions.

The Nextel network is useful in scenarios where paging and/or an intercom system is otherwise needed such as classrooms, doctor offices, etc. In an emergency, rather than call 20 different classrooms, a talk group can be setup where all the radios can be lit up at once. In doctor's office, it can be used to call all doctors when needed.

Nextel iDEN r765 IS

Standing tall and proud next to the Hero! This is the new monstrous Motorola r765 IS, with the IS representing intrinsically safe. You can use this puppy while pumping gas, after leaving Taco Bell, or anywhere else a potentially explosive environment exists.

Fwd: HTC Hero and Verizon Imagio

Size comparisons of the BlackBerry Tour, HTC Hero, HTC Imagio, and Palm Pro. OS's represented here include BlackBerry OS, Android OS, Windows Mobile 6.5, and Windows Mobile 6.1.

T-Mobile / Danger / Microsoft Sidekick Outage

Over the last weekend, it was announced by T-Mobile, Danger (maker of the Sidekick) and Microsoft (who acquired Danger last year) that an outage on their systems caused data loss for users, including address book entries, etc...

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10372525-56.html

Anyway, it casts a shadow over cloud computing and trusting the cloud... i.e. the data that you put in your phone syncing with the cloud and then disappearing!

First, Android's *NOT* Good Enough, Now Fully Supported?

Earlier in the year, Sprint's CEO noted that Android wasn't good enough for Sprint (yet) even though Sprint was an original member of the Open Handset Alliance.

Fast Forward a number of months and apparently Sprint now fully supports Android!

I received an email from Sprint with the following subject:

Sprint fully supports Android - Join us at the 2009 Sprint Open Developer Conference

and with a link to this page:

Android apparently isn't a sponsor, but the link does list that:

Sprint Announces Extensive Android Content at the Sprint Developer Conference

- HTC and Sprint will be giving away 400 handsets at the HTC Android hands on coding lab, Oct 26
- Google will be present on the Android Marketplace and Android development best practices Oct 28

It does appear Windows Mobile, HTC, Palm, BlackBerry and such are all listed as sponsors.

AT&T Wireless - Femto Cell Trials Continue

AT&T is looking at jumping into the femto cell party, joining Sprint (first) and Verizon (second) with a router looking box that promises to improve coverage where you decide to plug it in.

Whereas the Sprint and Verizon units, sourced from Samsung, enhance voice coverage across the 1xRT CDMA network and do not provide 3G EvDO data, the AT&T unit provided by Cisco is the polar opposite: it will promises improvements in 3G UMTS/HSPA coverage but does nothing for 2G GPRS/EDGE/GSM users.

Where does that leave us? Well, if you're an iPhone 3G or 3Gs user, or have another device that works on AT&T's US 3G bands, then you can purchase this device to give you better coverage where you need it as long as you have fast reliable internet service.
